Visit to the doctor...
So, after I was diagnosed with HSV1 a while ago, I had it come back on a regular basis (although gradually diminishing). So, a couple of days ago, I decided to go talk to an oral surgeon. Things I found out:

1. The suggestion that HSV1 does not come out inside the mouth, which is circulated on the net on numerous sites, is false. Moreover, the great Valtrex doesn't work quite as well when HSV comes out inside the mouth.

2. We are in the stone age. Instead of suggesting adjustments in diet, he prescribed me an ointment. An ointment? Seriously now...

I've noticed a couple of things:

1. I feel weird when I take Valtrex + it seems to make the matters worse.
2. I changed toothpaste and outbreaks all of a sudden almost completely disappeared.

Of course, this could be all in my head.

In any case, I hope this information comes in useful. Talking to a dentist and oral surgeon seems to be better than talking to a physician.

i'm curious, what tooth paste did you start using and what were you using prior to switching?

Don't remember...
To be honest, I don't remember. I think it was one of those tri-colored ones. And now I am using all sorts. I've noticed that as time moves forward, I feel this stuff less and less. And, considering that I've been putting my body under quite a bit of stress lately (lack of sleep, food, etc.), I am surprised at how well it's been holding up. I no longer get the regular outbreaks like I used to.

Re: Don't remember...
I know that there are ingredients in toothpastes these days that can cause ulcers to occur with a lot of frequency so I could see it being likely that it could affect herpes outbreaks as well.

Re: Don't remember...
Oh, interesting! Do you know about any particular chemicals?

Re: Don't remember...
yup, I just googled toothpaste mouth ulcers and found a few hits for various things but the main chemical cited is sodium lauryl sulfate or (SLS)

I don't know that it has any effect on HSV sores as I haven't done any looking into research papers about HSV effects though I should at some point.
